Handspinning Season

Winter is here, our farm is covered in a blanket of snow, and our fiber just arrived from the mill. After our sheep grow it, in the spring, as it’s getting too hot to be wearing a wool coat, we shear the fiber and send it to Battenkill Fiber Mill to be washed and carded. Carding is combing the fiber, so that they are all headed in the same direction and ready to spin. This is the fun part, and what keeps me busy in the winter, in any of my spare time. Well, spinning and reading through every seed catalog I can get a hold of.
